One of Barcelona's best restaurants is a family business

Cinc Sentits which translates as "five senses" is a family affair restaurant opened in 2004, located in the elegant Eixample district of Barcelona.

"I found there were clumps of restaurants, and I wanted to be near one of those clumps," said Jordi Atal, the mastermind behind Cinc Sentits.

1 Michelin star since 2008

The restaurant is a true family affair. Completely self-taught Canadian-Catalan chef Jordi Atal run a business together with his mother and sister Amèlia (FOH).

The restaurant gained immediate critical acclaim and was awarded 1 Michelin star in 2008.
The world's premier travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler named the restaurant one of the best new restaurants in the world.

A stylish restarant with unfailing charm professional family-run service offer modern cuisine based on Catalunya's culinary roots and utilizing local superior ingredients like Iberian suckling pig, Galician veal cheek, beef from the Pyrenees or Mediterranean red mullet.

"We're very focused on staying local wherever possible - meaning, for me, within the district of Barcelona, failing that Catalonia, failing that Spain, and then, if required, outside of Spain." said Artal.

There are two tasting menus of eight and the other of six tapas-size dishes that change with the seasons to reflect the freshest seasonal varieties in the market. Foie gras “Coca”, sepia meatballs, smoked pimento, maresme strawberries and gran cru chocolate are just a few examples of the extraordinary meals served there.

The dishes are meant to stimulate five taste sensations: bitterness, sweetness, sourness, saltiness and umami. Cinc Sentits is an example of fusion cuisine that blends the Catalan culinary traditions, cooking tips from Canada with the finest ingredients and intelligence.
